about

“Synths and Samplers do exist – Let's call this "Synth Rock."

Stolearm, born in 2003, is the Swiss / French solo project of Lucien Dell’Eglio, who has been gently persecuted by many different influences, visible throughout both musical and visual aspects: artwork, lights, and places, as well as dreams or inner landscapes are the driving forces behind the songs.

You cannot describe Stolearm without quoting several tedious terms such as "New Wave," "Shoegaze", "Industrial Rock", or "Ambient" Nevertheless, Stolearm borrows from Shoegaze textures (reverberated, blurred, dripping synths and guitar clusters), along with aggressive EBM-like basses, elements from Drone, in a kind of dilapidated form of New Wave, a contemplative "Rock Noir."

The opposition of cold, rigid and digital elements and organic and erratic ones has always been a constant ratio in Stolearm. Hardware samplers and synths struggle with acoustic instruments such as guitar, bass, drums and percussion.
Bold layers of sounds, but also lots of samples are usually considerable parts of the basis to the songs, which use noise as a melodic and harmonic element. As a way to experiment tones, searching for new words, lyrics are often in English, but include some German and French, as well as nonsensical excursions.

There must be danger and limits on stage, and Stolearm rejects the use of laptop in live performance, because of their unreliability and their lack of magic, owing to the fact that they offer too many possibilities. Finally, they’re in search of something that isn’t totally clean, that contains a grain, through the live use of old gear such as AKAI S2000 or EMU E5000 samplers.

In a nutshell, Stolearm basks in the opposition of pop and experimental music, and tries to violently bang its pop core against the walls, hammering it with a dense and complex sound. From foetal screams to exuberant laughing, their music is fragile, contrast-ridden, nostalgic, but also aggressive and fun (or rather half-serious).

Over 3 LPs and 2 EPs have been released since 2005. In 2013, a new album, entitled "Glasslight Schwarzfaçade" (Mastered by Brain Leisure) is released on Urgence Disk Records (Geneva). Stolearm worked with few personalities such as Desireless and Operation of the Sun, and shared the bill with Front 242, Mount Kimbie, Thieves Like Us, Noisia, Granchaos
